Technique
Judith’s
technique is a blend of the basics
of classical ballet,
the intensity and structure
of modern and the excitement and lyricism of contemporary
jazz.

Training
Judith Simone started training in Graham Technique at
the age of seven in her
hometown of Springfield, MA.
At ten,
she trained and performed with Charles Weidman
in Hartford, CT. As a young
teenager, she attended Camp Beaupre
in the Berkshires for
several years where
she studied with Deborah Jowitt in
Modern, Natasha Boskovic in Classical Ballet and
Carola
Goya and Matteo in Hindu and
Spanish. From 16 to 18, at Connecticut
College School
of Dance, she trained and demonstrated for the great Alvin
Ailey
in Jazz and nationally renown Jean-Leon Destine in
Haitian. She also studied there
with Modern Dance legends
Donald McKayle, David Wood and Jose Limon. As a young
adult,
she trained with Raymond Johnson
and Jaime Rogers in Jazz.

Teaching
Judith
started teaching Modern Interpretive Dance to children
at age 16 in Springfield,
MA. After
moving to
San Francisco in the
early seventies, Judith taught Jazz
at San Francisco Dance Theater, San Francisco
Dance Center
and Burlingame Park and Recreation. She also taught “Jazz
for Ballet Dancers” at Marin Ballet. She was Dance
Director at Reed College in Portland,
OR in 1974.

Choreographer
Judith performed in her own choreography
from age ten
through her adult years. She choreographed exciting and
crowd-pleasing contemporary works for The Judith Simone
Dancers throughout
the 80’s in the San Francisco
Bay Area.

Performances
Judith started performing as a soloist
at
age ten in Springfield, MA. She performed
at Jacob’s Pillow
in Lee, MA as a young teenager with Carola Goya and Matteo
in Hindu and Spanish. At 16, she performed
at Connecticut
College School of Dance
with Jose Limon. In San Francisco,
she
danced for John Pasqualetti’s Pacific Ballet
and Raymond Johnson in Jazz.
From 1979 – 1984 she
performed with her
own group, the Judith Simone Dancers.
She was also a member of the “New Shoes,
Old Souls” dance
company which performed during the late nineties and
was made up of senior bay area choreographers and dancers.
In this group, she was fortunate enough to perform for
the great Mark Morris.

Productions
In
1983, Judith produced and directed “Contemporary
Choreographers’ Concert”
at The Palace of
Fine Arts in San Francisco. The program included several
of her own
works and the works of twelve other
well-known
bay area contemporary choreographers. In 1986, she produced “ High
Schools Dancing” at the same venue with ten bay
area high school dance groups.
